Downloadable Products: One of the hurdles with providing content in physical form is the cost of materials, reproduction, and delivery. The advantage of downloadable media is the elimination of these physical media and delivery costs. I am happy to provide these products for an unusually small fee. This benefits both the buyer and the seller; the buyer gets access to content for an extremely low price point, and the seller is able to provide content that would otherwise be too expensive to produce physically.

The Panhandle Gap Bypass (HD)

For the first time in 25 years of hiking the Wonderland Trail and transiting the Panhandle Gap at all hours and times of day, my daughter and I were stymied by frozen snow and minimal boot track at 11 PM in August of this year, forcing an unplanned bivy at 6800'. The snow at the gap tends to be more consolidated due to shadowing from the ridge above, not getting direct sunlight until close to noon. This product includes a real time transit of the workaround, filmed from a helmet cam and a stationary camera from below, showing how to get around the Gap in a safe manner. Digging into the video archives, footage also includes transits from different years including no snow, glissading the gap, a full moon above- cloud transit, mountain goats, and other interesting and pertinent video. An indispensable reference for Wonderland Trail hikers with over 30 minutes of coverage for this highest point! Quicktime (.mov), 720P HD, file size 1.2 GB, runtime 36 mins. ONLY $2.99!

Backpacking Strategies: Hiking More Than 20 Miles Per Day (HD)

Backpacking Strategies: Hiking More Than 20 Miles Per Day is a synopsis of techniques I've used over the past 25 years to fastpack Mt. Rainier's Wonderland Trail in 4 days or less. This video includes major sections on training, equipment, and approach/attitude, as well as a section on Wonderland Trail specifics pertinent to the fastpacker. There's a reason I can pull off 20-30 or more miles per day, even approaching age 60, without spending an inordinate amount of time in the gym or working out. I share these techniques and lessons learned, showcased with video I have amassed over the past 6 years.  Includes references for websites and manufacturers of high quality light weight gear. This is version 1.0, and will be updated periodically to ensure relevance and usefulness. Run time 39 minutes. Quicktime movie (.mov) in HD 720P.  File size 1.4GB

Wonderland Trail 3 Day Backpack (HD)

In 2009 I was filming a podcast for Gossamer Gear and in the process chronicled my trip. I was not in the best of shape during this sojourn and tried to capture both the glory and the pain. Supplemented with additional HD footage, this series is available for each day. Authored as Quicktime movies (.mov), these 720p HD files are less than 1GB each for the download. Along with views taken on the trail (incl. scenes from 2008 thru-hike), most of this series is me talking to the camera under locomotion. Includes on screen pop up map and elevation profile for orientation.

My Wonderland (HD)

My Wonderland is a film about my then 13-year old daughter in her quest to hike Mt. Rainier's 93 mile wonderland trail in 5 days. Lugging a camera while accompanying her on over 140 miles of hiking in 2008, she maintained a remarkably upbeat attitude in spite of the difficulties of the trail. 16 hour days, mosquitoes, bad weather and sodden feet did not discourage her and contrasted the glorious days of good weather and the gifts that come when you spend time in the outdoors; sunsets when hiking above 7000 feet and wildlife like bear, coyote and mountain chicken. A great way to spend time between two generations. This short (16:50) film emphasized the importance of exposing our kids to wilderness and encourage a sense of ownership of wild places. My Wonderland was a finalist in the 2009 Kendal Mountain Film Festival and toured primary schools in the UK with other films about kids and the outdoors.

This film is available for download in Quicktime Movie format (.mov) in HD at 720p

Visit a working kendo shop in Japan where a craftsman shows the process of assembling a new shinai in detail. This video is extremely useful as a reference in deconstructing a shinai for repair, such as replacing a stave. It is also interesting to observe someone who has been a craftsman for many years in this field. Complete with English translation. Run time 19:28.
